depends.

For example: ur doctor gives u the scrp: "lipitor 10mg X30, 10mg P.O. HS, refill X5", and the pharm may give u lipitor 20mg X15. u have to break the pill in this scenario. it happened in the past. So u have to check the strength of the pill in stead of counting the numbers. Of course, u can break capsule, or those coated, or CR, ER, XL ..... pills
