I don't think you have a chance

I am in TX.
I had a very bad car accident almost 10 years ago and almost got killed.
A Mexican guy hit me and he was at fault based on Police report.
But, he did not have any insurance. The only thing the police man could do was to give him two tickets, one for no-insurance and another for hitting me.
My car was totalled.
Since I only bought liability for my car at that time, I did not get one cent for my car. I also had to pay 10% co-pay (almost $1000) for my medical bill.

I consulted a lawyer for my case and he told me it did not look bright for me to recover the cost from that Mexican guy since he had no money. I could not take his car or house (if he had one) away.
