help, a legal employment problem

Recently I am working for a client through a consulting company at VA over a year. Based on my performance the client wants to hire me directly.

But I am facing a legal problem, when I join the consulting company I signed a contractor which prohibits me to be hired by any client directly during work for client and thereafter I leave the consulting company for a year.I did not notice the one when I join the consulting company.

This part of the contract is below:

during the term of my employment and for one year thereafter, I will not enter into a contract or sub-contract agreement to provide consulting service.("Consulting Service" is defined as specific work rendered by an individual or firm in return for payment) directly or indirectly to Client("Client" is defined as the party for whom the work is to be ultimately performed), Primes ("Prime" is defined as the party though whom the work maybe performed), or Contractors ("Contractor" is defined as the party that XXXXX may use for performing work) of XXXXX where I have been assigned to learned of opportunities as a result of my employment with XXXXX.


Could anyone know the law that indicate the contract is illegal, so that I can fight with my consulting company and I could have a chance to work for the company I am dreaming about – the client. Please provide me any information or website that will led me find a law that against this kind contract

I remember a couple cases about the same suite that this kind contract is illegal, but can not find the law.
