Rule 1.16 Declining or Terminating Representation

d) Upon termination of representation, a lawyer shall take steps to the extent reasonably practicable to protect a client's interests, such as giving reasonable notice to the client, allowing time for employment of other counsel, surrendering papers and property to which the client is entitled and refunding any advance payment of fee or expense that has not been earned or incurred. The lawyer may retain papers relating to the client to the extent permitted by other law.
所以任何有關您案件的資料，屬於您的部份的文件他都應該歸還給您， 但是並不代表他需要移轉所有的資料給您，任何他或是他的法律助理替您準備的表格，文件或是相關辯護資料他並沒有義務轉交給您(除非他是法院指派給您的公設辯護律師)，所以老實說對方是有權要求您支付準備與整理這些文件所需要的費用，然而任何已經file到法院有關您這個案件的資料或是文件，您是可以直接到法院要求給予您一個副本而不經過他。

依據rule 1.5 -(A)-3的規定
3) the fee customarily charged in the locality for similar legal services
他可以在一定的範圍內要求您負擔應該支付的費用。

Should he return my documents by law?
要看您所在的州是否有特別的規定，但是一般的情況如上述Rule 1.6的規定，對方需要歸還任何屬於您的文件或是物品，除此之外他無需將其他的資料轉移給您。

Is there any reason I have to tell him I need my doucments?
這是您與他的事，但是一般的情況，客戶應該信任他的法定代理人，也就是說您不應該對您的律師說謊，基本上在
Rule 1.16 Declining or Terminating Representation 中
如果律師與客戶在基礎認定上有不同的意見，律師可以選擇不代表這個客戶，因此在您的情況，您有權不告訴對方您的理由，但是您不應該對他說謊。
