They can do whatever they want provided using right reasons, not in names of discrimination. I have lived in US for a while and never heard a case you cannot use your own bag for shopping. I believe there is a misundertanding. If you explained to the store manager and cleanuped your name (they had an unfavorite perception of what you did), the matter would be gone.
