Your insurance is not for your landlord but for you. When you made mistake that cover you. Like a car insurance. When you hit somebody by your mistake, your insurance cover.

based on what you say, you did wrong to bring the loss. It is your responsibility. If you have a liablity insurance, that will cover.

Another example, when you rent a car, the rental company always ask you to buy insurance. In most case we refuse due to our own car insurance and credit card already cover that rental car. What you have insurance or not, if you have an accident for the rental car, you are liable to pay. You or YOUR insurance policy. But if you die or not able to pay, I am sure the rental car company has its own insurance to cover.
