Urgent - J1

Dear Friends,

I'm in US on OPT. I'm applying J1 but my lawyer said I have to either go back to China or go to her Canadian connection in Torronto to have the visa issued?

May I ask if it is true that I have to go back China to be interview for J1? Is there any chance I can apply J1 in US - so I don't have to leave this country?
