I know in a few states the landlord cannot raise the rent unless the tenant changes. The law is designed to prevent the landlord from using rent raise as a tool to kick out tenants he does not like.
In such states, even after you die, your wife/children can inherit the lease and stay. The landlord cannot raise the rent.
I recall a family had rented an apartment for > 20 years in NY. The rent should have been raised a lot but the landlord could not do it. Final the landlord paid $25,000 to let the family move out so he could raise the rent.
But I suspect it is not the case in your place. The manaagement should know the laws very well.
