STP Please help: Muffler Installation

My car sound like an airplane and I suspect it is the muffler. Any idea?

Is it difficult for me to replace the muffler by myself? I do not have welding equipment. Some people say welding is not required. How long normally does it take to do the job? What pitfall can you think of before I started a mess.
