I don't know if North Carolina is same as California. In CA, don't sign any payment request for your parents if you have to send them to see doctors. Anyone can go to ER (even illegal immigrants). No money, no problem. If you do not wish to apply greencard for them, just leave after seeing doctor. If you with to apply greencard for them, negociate with the hospital for a payment plan. Don't forget to tell them your parents have no income. My friend owes over 20Ks to a hispital and she needs to pay it back $5 every month till she die. She's still living happily now. But if you take all your parents liabilities, wait to file bankrupcy for medicals. But if you want to send them to private doctor, they normally need you prepay. So make sure to send to hospital, even call embulance, don't worry the fare.... Benefits being in America.
