Traditional IRA or Roth for tax purpose, Please?

I'm doing my tax return with Turbotax software. I found out if I open a traditional IRA for me and my hu*****and, we can get more than one thousand dollars back in federal tax. Is it worth it to put $8000 in traditional IRA? Roth IRA can't give us any tax breaks now. Any advice? Thanks a lot.
