Voluteer cannot take any job opportunity of Americans. This means, you cannot volunteer in any position that is normally paid, or your intention is to gain experience for job hunting.

For example, you volunteer as an Administrative assistant for a company, or volunteer as an accountant in a company, these are not allowed.

However, if you volunteer in a hospital reading for old people, or as single cat said volunteer for Red Cross, that should be fine.
