J-1 research scholar 交稅嗎？

我是J-1 research scholar ，三年。來之前聽他們說不用交稅。但來後學校把所能扣的稅都扣了。問他們，還被他們嘲笑了。問問高手們，J-1 research scholar 交稅嗎？謝謝！！！
