It's very complex even to think to file joint tax state return if hu*****and and wife are in different states. One needs to find if the state tax form has some items you can do so, like credits for paying other state tax, income in other states, etc. In this case, hu*****and's state has no income tax, I guess the joint state tax return (assuming you can do it) will most likely have no advantage, expecially hu*****and's income contributed 2/3.
Some state allows one to select home state so that the out-state income is taxable by home state. Other states have no such thing at all.
