The following is my experience: in 95, I hit my Japanese girlfriend (no need to discuss details here), I was arrested and charged by the state (not by her). I was scared at that time. I pleaed "no contest" in the court, and the public defender (or so called consulor) barganed with the prosecutor, I then was put under probation. After one year, the charge was dismissed and trouble free. I did indicate this incident on my application for citizenship, no problem at all. So, don't worry too much, people do stupid things all the time, it is not the end of the world. Stand tall.
Don't worry
