The International Student Office (ISO) told me that I am out of student status, because I didn't apply OPT before the graduation (normally it should be applied 3 months in advance of graduation). the reason that I didn't apply is that I tried to delay my graduation one more semester, because I am pregnant and will have a baby next month, also the professor whom I worked for offered me a RA position until next semester ( he is not in my department of program study).unfortunately, I didn't get an approval to extend my I-20, so I am in this situation: my I- 20 will be expired at the end of this month, and I didn't apply for OPT yet, the ISO officer told me that I am out of my status now.
I have made an appointment with the Director of ISO tomorrow and tried to know want I should do to keep my status, but some of my friends told me that I should consult a lawyer first; it might not be a good idea to see ISO officer at this time.
Could anyone give me some advice and suggestion of what I should do and how can I keep a legal status? I am a signal mother and so anxious about that I might lose my unborn baby, if I am illegal in United States.
Many thanks for your advice and help!
