Usually, if you were laid off you may not be bound to your previous contract! That's a job that fits your skill. You have to feed yourself. There is no competition here. I have a friend who experienced similar situation, and he told his first company that "OK, I do not work for any other company but you have to pay me otherwise how can I live?"
