STOP sign means that you must

stop first and wait the road is clear of any traffic and then you can proceed to enter the road. If you have any collision with any moving object when you enter the road even after you stop for the stop sign, you are guilt of not stopping for safely entering the road. No argument here at all. You should thank God for the fact that you did not get killed only for a luck. Remember the speeding of another vehicle would not dilute your fault at all. Before a stop sign, you just don't have the right of way, period. So just be patient in front of a STOP sign.
