Last time ,I was caught

because of speeding .when the policeman asked me for the insurance card .I just found out I forgot to put it on my car. the policeman was nice,told me to go to the court and showed the judge the insure card .then my case will be dismissed. so at court I showed the insurance card
the judge even didn't ask me why I forgot to put the insurance card in my car. I only got $50 fine for speeding. no record on my driving history.so I think you show the insurance card to the judge to verify you have the insurance. some time you just be careless ;that is it. I don not think the judge will not give you a chance.
