Usually a tenant is supposed to notify your landlord (not your roommate) the date of moving out one month earlier (to make it safer, you should notify your landlord in written form at least 1 month + 1 day earlier). Your roommate may overreacted, as Pas*****y said, but there is really not much you can get from your roommate.
