收到法院傳票, 關於前房客的狗咬了人

房客的guest來玩的時候被房客的狗咬了. 這事發生在2020年, 此房客在2023年已搬走. 昨天收到法院傳票, 兩個房客和我都在被告之列. 一般來說, 狗咬人是狗主人負責的, 房東 is not liable, 除非房東事先知道這是一隻凶狗. 我自然has no prior knowledge of that.

Summons 上沒有 specific court date, 是這麽寫的:

You are summoned to appear before this court and to file your pleading to the petition and to serve a copy of your pleading upon the attorney for plaintiff all within 30 days after receiving this summons.

求助老貓等大拿們, 我該怎麽應對? 是不是應該馬上報房子的保險 (liability) 讓保險公司來處理? 非常感謝!
