Because you have not given proper notice to quit your lease, your landlord is entitled to demand the full rent for the month of May. Now, she is asking only for half -- it is a good deal for you.
However, if your landlord finds a tenant to replace you in the same month, you can demand she refunds the portion of rent now the new tenant pays.
