Bail bonds are completely illegal in Canada. In America, bail bondsmen provide the funds necessary to release a criminal offender prior to trial; this is usually secured by property collateral or a co-signer. The bondsman will also instruct the defendant of the cosigner to make sure the defendant appears at all scheduled court hearings.
