Check the wills and insurance laws in your state, or consult a estate plan/probate attorny. Usually life insurance policy is indepedent of your estate and not governed by your will. Even if you designate your mom as the beneficiary of the policy in your later-executed will, and if you do not change the benefciary in accordance with the procedure under your policy, most of the time, the court is reluctant to recognize the change you have made by will to the beneficiary.
