Based on my experience-speed25
I was fined for $95. I went to a municipal court on which you cannot plead not guilty. You have the choice of plead guilt or nolo-contingent(?). If you plead not guilty, the case exceeds the court limit and you have to go to a state court and you have to win in front of jury, which sounds more like cases we saw on TV. It takes longer time and you could still lose. So I pleaded nolo-contingent, which means that you are at fault but you have some sort of excuse. The judge will still fine you but at a "discount" rate depending on you pass history. But some court will charge you a "little" service charge for being in the court. In my case, my fine was reduced to $76 but I had to pay $15 fee and took 1/2 personal day. So you can find out how much "discount" you can get and decide what you going to do. I don't know which state you are in but the fine is a bit high.
