I had car accident in May this year, We were stopped in a cross-section, and when we got to go, I started too soon and bumped the truck in front. As of Now, my car damage was ~8K, the truck damage was ~4K, this part is resolved.
My insurance company (farmers) recently sent me a letter, asking if I will authorize to disclose my insurance limit for bodily injuries. Farmers told me that the other party is still under treatment (physical therapy or something like that) and haven't propse their demands. I told farmers that they can disclose the limit.
What should I do now? My worry is that the other party will demand big compensations which far exeed my limit, which is $15000 ( I know this is very low). Should I find a lawyer now to defend myself? Farmers said in the case of a law suit, they will assign a lawyer to help me (according to the insurance policy I have).
I've never had experience like this. I thought the accident was not that severe. At the time, we didn't even ask police come over, we just called my insurance company at the scene. He seemed to have some pain, but he can still walk and drive away by himself. Also, at the scene, he asked some money and I said no, I told him that let insurance company handle the case.
Thanks much in advance!
