Please help,,,in debt

I am jobless since I graduated last year. My visa is going to expire in january 2004. All my living expenses are loaned from my credit cards. Total debts are about USD40,000. I have no money to paid them. Should I file bankrupty before I leave? or just leave? If I want to come back after several years, what should I do? If I am not coming back, what should I do? Please give advices. Your helps will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
