青少年公民問題請教.

丈夫和我剛剛成為美國公民,以我的理解，17歲兒子自動成為美國公民.是嗎？
我們正在考慮為兒子申請美國護照.但有人告訴我，必須首先為兒子申請.Certificate of Citizenship ,然後才可以為他申請美國護照，是這樣的嗎？
