I think his friend's physical damage insurance covers the damage of his car. If his friend does not have physical damage coverage, his friend's liability coverage does not cover the damage. Reasoning: since his friend drove the car with permission, the car became a covered auto under his friend's liability coverage. If his friend hit another person's car, the liability insurance covers. Covered auto itself, NO.
