How big risk will I take?

I don’t why I wrote this message by Chinese but I can’t post it even I tried several time.
I have a very good friend who is in China now. I heard he was involved Fa Lun Gong and maybe was arrested several years ago, I haven’t contacted him by any way yet because I am a US citizen now, I don’t want my name finally is put on the Chinese Security department the “Black”name list, it is not good for me and him. But recently I heard he has no job and got very hard time, so I am thinking about if I make a phone call to him or send him a letter, how big the risk will I take?
I know maybe nobody can answer my question, but I still want to put here and I hope if someone has same experience with me, at least we can discuss with this. thanks!
