We signed the lease with a landlord to move in his apartment on Dec 1st, lease ends on 5/31/2005, we also paid $1400 deposit. But just yesterday he called me that he and his wife are separate now and need that apartment, so we can't move in. So we asked 1) refund $1400 deposit; 2)$2000 to covering the expense during our new search (live in hotel, because we have to move out our current apartment on Dec 1st., storage for our furniture, and broker fee for the new apartment searching). However, they thought we are trying to make profit from it and only agreed to pay $1400+$500. Bot with $500 we only can live in hotel for 3 days, which is not enough time for us to find a new one.
Anyone has suggestion whether we are too unreasonable or what should we do next? Your help is highly appreciated.
