For one, if IRS goes after the back tax of the wife, there is a chance IRS might also go after the asset of the husband (at least the joint asset of husband and wife). Then the husband would sue lawyer for malpractice. Once the case is in IRS, nobody is in control, not even the lawyer.

IRS is a nuclear bomb, nobody can actually benefit from using it.
