Non-marital asset might appreciate during marriage. If the owner spouse actively managed such asset during marriage, the appreciation of the asset during marriage is divisible.

E.g. Spouse A owns a house worth $500K. During marriage the value appreciated to $600K, During divorce, the Spouse B might ask for $50K (600K-500K)/2 because spouse A spent money and time on it. Same as stock account, mutual fund etc. The appreciation might be divisible.
