Your friend and his wife should deny that he hit/beat/abuse the girl if he really didn't. Social department will talk to the girl as well, your friend's wife should be with the girl when social worker talks to the girl, and make sure when she lies, tell the social worker that it is not true.

I had a similar wituation with my son about 1 month ago(though he didn't have any bruise on his body), since he lied several times when the social worker talked to him, his stroy is not trust worthy. We got a phone call yesterday and was told the case was closed.

Be prepared to lose the girl to social department though, as your friend was arrested before. Tell him to control his temper, this will become an issue when he looks for a new job, as most company are doing background check now.
