Well, if you never paid for gas, you should expect it to be cut

Therefore from tenant's perspective, you bear some responsibility.  The Court usually favors the tenant than landlord.  In situation like this, you and the gas company are jointly liable, since the responsibility between two of you is unclear, BUT SOMEONE is responsible for the tenant.  In public policy, the court will not rule in such a way that encourages landlord rent out houses without properly connects utility.  So if all these shows up in court, you are not going to be free and clean. 

But, talking like this is thinking too far ahead, I don't think she's going to sue you, she just want to negotiate.
