That will give a shot for him to recover and forgive what you did.

I can guess that you must be the only child your parents have ( Let me know if it is ture ).
Usually, this happens due to parents loving too much of their child and cause kids never to grow to be independent of their own.
This happens more and more often within chinese family due to one child policy across the board.
