It is corresponding to utility patent here in the US. Not sure why one can get a patent approved within 6 months in China. Here in the US, there are so many applications each year because everybody wants to do business in the US. There are fewer patent examiners. There are certain ways to fast track an application. For example, you can apply track one to prioritize your application, in which case the application is complete within 12 months. Otherwise, PTO requires an application to be examined within 14 months, which, count typically 2 office actions, each takes about 6 months, RCE, etc., 3-4 years time is typical. Of course, once your application is granted you get your time back by adjustment.
How long you would get the application is less important. In the US, you have patent protection from the date it is filed. The patent term also counts from the filing date, not the actual grant date. Once you file, you can claim patent pending status. The longest application I know took about 11 years to finish and by the time the application was granted, there was not much time left in its term.
