Car accident and lost wage

if a person had a car accident, the doctor wrote a note which said to stay home for several days, and then stayed at home for several days. He used his vacation days.
In the pay check, the employer deduct money for those days, and then add it back, they treat it the same as vacation.
Can he claim he lost wages for those days?
