If I were you, I would worry the least for the tax. It's not a big deal. You pay tax for your global income if you are citizen or green card holder. You pay gift tax when you give cash or valuables to non-charities.

Does your cousin have documents to prove he legally obtained the half million dolllars? How do you justify the transfers?
