In my city, almost everyone I know gets a parking ticket or two, and it is really hard to get a parking ticket dismissed unless the officer made an obvious mistake.
The funny thing is the ticket is not much more expensive than the parking fee here. We just go to City Finance website, plead not guilty, then see a page essentially saying "Since you plead not guilty, I give you 20% discount on the ticket, will you pay now?". This is the way a lot of people pay their parking tickets.
