How to get my money back

I lend a friend some money a year ago, by feb this year, he paid a portion back, $9000 balance left. But he has not paid me anything since then. Every time I ask for it, he would say that his restaurant is losing money, and he will pay me when the business picks up. Lease give a some ideas to helpe recover my money.
