I used to work for a small company which did tricks like this all the time. If they decided to let somebody go, they normally ask him to resign to trade for good reference. Surprisingly, all of them ( like 20+) resigned without much fight at all, and they all are white male Americans. To the company, it saves them from unemployment insurance premium hike. In Lilynew's case, my guess is that company gave her two month to look for a new job so she can resign herself if she find a new job. It will save company some money on unemployment insurance premium.
"Chief", company never pay anybody unemployment benefits, government does. However, insurance premium is related to the number of people company laid off previously.
In general, if it is "employment at will", they can let you go at any time with or without advance notice. But if you didn't do anything wrong, you can't be denied unemployment benefits.
回複:老板要terminate my employment,please help.
