It not too much. I suggest you just eat the cost. Even if you files a law suit and win, you still have to make him pay you. It's not easy to collect small money if he doesn't want to.

One thing between hiring moving helpers and hiring moving companies is the latter carries insurance. You are at your own risk when hiring helpers, which may seems to be cheaper.

Consider yourself lucky since they didn't hurt themselves and sue you.
