need legal advice

A friend of mine went through some hardship at work, mostly because he had some issues with the newly-appointed site-head at his company. He was terminated lately and was offered a severance package. His company computer was checked and an interview slide deck was found. In the slides, there may be some information that was not in public domain. The company revoked the severance offer and is investigating the information in that slide deck to see if there was proprietary information being released to a third party and whether it has impact on business. according to my friend, the information in that file does not contain anything that can affect bottomline. what could be the worst consequence of this and what chance would this happen?
