關與cash checking issues 詢問老貓

I hired a contractor this Jan. The day I need to take flight around end of
Jan, he pushed me to give him two checks of $3000 and $3400. Even the contract
amount is only $3000. The next day after I landed in China I called him
that I have placed stop payment on the $3400 check and will cancel the bank
account. Yesterday I came to CA again and found one mail in my mailbox from
cash checker office. The letter said the cash checker office will sue me
since the check is cashed by the contractor, and even I placed stop payment
on the check. I still need to pay the $3400 to the cash check office. They
will sue me if I don't pay them. Since the contractor is a liar and he
didn't work on my house at all after he got the payment from me. I am suing
him in the small claim court the same time. I got confused what should I
do next. 單身老貓 what is my responsibility? should I pay the $3400 to
the cash checker place even I already placed stop payment on that check?
