TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Radiation levels in central Tokyo remained about four times higher than normal levels Tuesday evening, but the amount is not enough to cause immediate harm to the human body, said an official at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government said Tuesday on its website that radiation levels in downtown Tokyo stood at an average 0.138 microsievert an hour around 0800 GMT, compared with the 0.035 microsievert an hour a person would typically be exposed to in central Tokyo due to background radiation.
