make sure the house is under joint tenancy at closing

I think it is ok that your name is not on the contract and mortgage loan.
When you two go to the closing, make sure to ask your attorney to include your name in the title as well as type as joint tenancy, which means that if either of you dies, the house goes to the surviving spouse.
