老師你好，

我全家今天收到美國綠卡， 我目前是每天往返加拿大和美國，家人住加拿大。  目前孩子還有一年就高中畢業，他們不想動。

1我們必須要住在美國嗎？

-Technically, yes.

如果我們每隔幾周來美國住一晚，可以保綠卡嗎？

-It may be OK for a short period of time (e.g., less than 6 months). If you want to do it for a longer time, you may have trouble.

You may come to US to apply for the reentry permit which allows you to stay in Canada for more than one year and less than two years. You do not need to wait for the reentry permit approval to leave US. Once you conduct the biometrics, you can leave US during the reentry permit pending (you may indicate in the I-131 application for reentry permit that you want USCIS to send the reentry permit to a US Consulate in Canada after it is aprpoved and then, you can pick it up in the US Consulate.

2.孩子明年上大學， 如果美國大學沒錄取，隻能上加拿大大學， 孩子綠卡怎麽辦？

 -He may come to US to apply for the reentry permit and stay in Canada and then, come to US to apply for a new reentry permit again before the old one expires.

3.我的H1B，還有兩年有效期，可以先用H1b,

還是拿到綠卡， H1B就失效？

-Yes. The H1B status was invalid and you need to use the green card to travel and work in US.

PS， 我在辦綠卡期間也我是美國加拿大來回,，家人一直在加拿大，沒過來。

-After you all got the green card, the situation has been changed.
