It was unreasonable for you to apply B2 in Canada since you are in valid H1b status. Abjuration of your H1b status was not solely determined by your thought, mostly depends on your employer. Beyond that, you might not check the requirements for B2 visa application, it is clearly stated that you must show strong tie to Canada to be qualifed for B2. For example, you have been employed in Canada for at least 6 months, etc.
You actually have lost your legal status now and entered US illegally. You current status is out of status and deportable. You will be fine if INS doesn't find that, but no guarantee.
