how can stop AP application

I mailed out AP travel document application for my son this May 7th since that time his green card not be approved yet. Until Now we didn't get receipt and found they didn't take the check we sent to.
Now my son green card has been approved. So my question is how can I stop the AP application process if they not start yet and not let INS take the the check too?
